Now that spring is finally sprung here in the midwest…. my thoughts turn to ticks.  Deer ticks, specifically.  You see I have a 6 year old daughter who has had limes disease treatment 5 times already.  We live in an area of Wisconsin that is teaming with deer ticks.  I have tried many things to control them in our segment of the forest.  In the summer you can see me madly weed-wacking anything in site.  I practically kill myself trying to make our yard and driveway unattractive to ticks… but alas those ticks are persistent buggers.  A couple of years ago, I did extensive research on the internet looking for anything that could control ticks that would not be toxic to my baby.   Here is what I came up with… it seems to do the trick, but we are pretty smelly all summer

2 Tablespoons olive oil

2 Tablespoons aloe vera gel

25 drops lavendar oil

25 drops rose geranium oil

Mix well and keep in a squeeze bottle by the door.  Put on face, neck, arms and legs each time venturing outside.  It seems to work, we have been tick free when we remember to use the lotion, they don’t like the smell.
