I’m not a huge breakfast person, especially when it’s at 7am. However, I do recognize the importance of having a nutritious, well rounded breakfast. Since I run every morning, I know I need to refuel with protein and other nutrients that will keep my stomach from grumbling and my mind alert at work!

Keep in mind, being a smoothie recipe, this can easily be adjusted to your own tastes. My recipe is gluten free and even vegan.

Ingredients

1 cup chilled green tea: for a boost of caffeine as well as antioxidants

1 ½ cups baby kale: full of essential vitamins A, C and K as well as potassium and iron

½ cup frozen blueberries: another great source of antioxidants and sweetness

1 cup Organic Valley Soymilk: studies show soy can help raise HDL and lower LDL levels, and it is just delicious!

3 tablespoons hemp protein powder: 15g of great vegan protein

1 tablespoon almond butter: extra protein, sweetness and healthy fats

½ teaspoon vanilla: contains strong antioxidant and antibacterial properties along with great flavor

¼ teaspoon cinnamon: because I put cinnamon in eerythign and it helps regulate blood sugar

Other Possible Additions:

1 tablespoon agave/honey for extra sweetness

1 frozen banana for a creamier consistency and potassium

1 tablespoon chia seeds for extra protein, fiber and thickess

1 teaspoon grated ginger to add flavor and aid digestion

Directions

Place everything in your blender and blend on high. Add more soy milk for a thinner consistency or thrown in a couple ice cups to thicken it up.

I like to pour mine in a tall chilled glass and sip it through a straw. Because everything tastes better with a straw, right?
